When you copy text from other applications and paste it into your InDesign document, the text can often look like a dog’s dinner: atrocious formatting and just a nightmare to go through and repair. But in your InDesign Preferences, under Clipboard Handling, there is an option to allow all style information markers to be imported (or not, in which case all the style formatting is stripped and you can manually change it). To locate this setting, go to InDesign (PC: Edit) > Preferences > Clipboard Handling and select All Information under When Pasting Text and Tables from Other Applications Paste. Just remember, if the font used in the original document is not available in the InDesign document, the text in question will be highlighted in pink to let you know that you need to find or replace that font in your document.
