Insert Text in a Frame?

image

As mentioned previously, you can create a text frame by simply dragging one out with the Type Tool (T). When you release your mouse, you’ll see the cursor blinking in the upper-left corner of the frame, and you can just start typing. It’s also really easy to add text to any other type of frame. Select the Type Tool (T) and click inside any shape to convert it into a text frame, and then, again, just start typing. (Note: This function can be disabled—see the next tip, “How Do I Turn Off the Auto Text Frame Feature?”) You can also fill a frame with placeholder text to get a feel for what the document will look like when your copy is added. Simply insert your cursor into the text frame and go to Type > Fill with Placeholder Text. While a text frame is selected, you can go to File > Place and choose an image to place inside the frame, and any text in that frame will be discarded and replaced with the image. This is because InDesign has converted the frame to a graphic frame. To learn more about working with text in InDesign, head to chapter 4.
