Create a New Blank Document?

This is a straightforward task, but there are some settings to consider (see next tip). Go to File > New > Document to bring up the dialog. Depending on how your Preferences are configured, you will see one of two dialogs: the legacy New Document dialog (above left) or the New Document dialog that resembles the “Start” workspace and shows Recent documents (above right). You can create your document by either choosing one of the predetermined sizes available in the dialog (if using the “Start” workspace) or creating a custom size. If you check the Preview checkbox at the bottom of either New Document dialog, you will see the new document behind the dialog. If this is just a one-off document, enter your preferred settings and go ahead and click Create. Once you’ve done this, you can then save the document.
