Edit an Image After it’s Been Placed?

image

Let’s say you’ve placed an image or graphic into your document and you decide that the image needs an edit or tweak. The beauty of InDesign is that when you place an image, you’re actually creating a link to the original image file. If you want to edit the image, just click on the image frame to select it, then Right-click and choose Edit With. You’ll be presented with a second list of all the software applications installed on your machine. Select the application you want to use—say, Photoshop—and the image will be opened in that application. Make your edits and save the file. When you come back to InDesign the edits are automatically applied to the image.

TIP: KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR LINKS PANEL

Make sure you check your Links panel regularly; sometimes if an image is edited outside of InDesign and it’s in one of your documents, you’ll get a warning in the Links panel notifying you that it’s been modified.
