Set My Preferred Character and Paragraph Styles?

image

We have covered how to set defaults for your font, stroke, hyphenation, and other settings, but you can also set your preferred character and paragraph styles. The easiest way to do this is to import styles from an existing document. First, make sure you have no documents open. This is always the most important step for setting style preferences. Then go to Type > Character Styles or Paragraph Styles (this tip works for either). From the panel menu, choose Load All Text Styles. Navigate your way to the existing document that contains the styles you want to use as your preferences, and then click Open. It’s as simple as that; the styles from that document are imported, and those styles are now set as your preferred paragraph and character styles. You can still go in and make a couple of tweaks, but this is a great way to set these styles quickly. If I have a specific set of requirements for a document, I sometimes make a dummy document that contains all my styles, and then I save it in Dropbox. Then if I am on the road and need to make a document using those styles, I can pull in the ones set in my dummy document.
