Set My Own Defaults?

image

My default font is always Minion Pro. Do you want your default font to be different than the one InDesign has chosen? Do you want the default stroke to be .5 instead of 1 point? Do you want all your text to be last-line justified? Do you want to automatically turn off hyphenation? You can change many of these defaults, but there’s a trick to this—well, not exactly a trick, but just something to remember to do before you open any new document (assuming you don’t have styles set yet). To set your own global defaults, you just have to set them all when there is no document open at all. That’s correct, close all your open documents, every single one of them. Then make whatever changes you want to your settings, and these new settings will become your defaults when you open a new file. This catches me out every time, and I am a seasoned user! You’ll thank me for this one! (Well, I hope you thank me for a lot of these tips.)
