Sample Single Colors Using the Color Picker?

image

The regular Eyedropper Tool lets you choose colors from any part of an image or anything with color in your document. But an even more powerful tool is the Color Picker Tool from the Color Picker dialog. To get to it, open the Color panel (Window > Color > Color) and double-click on the Fill icon (also works with the Stroke). To sample a color with the Color Picker, click-and-hold on the eyedropper icon in the bottom-right corner of the Color Picker dialog (don’t release the mouse yet), and drag it over an image, object, or anything else on your computer screen—it doesn’t even have to be in the InDesign interface—to pick a color from that item. When you’re hovering over the color you want to sample, you will see that color appear under the crosshair in the Color Picker dialog. Now just release your mouse, and your color will be selected. You can see the RGB, CMYK, Lab, and HEX values of this selection in your Color Picker dialog, and all values are still editable.
