Use Extensis Tools to Find Fonts in Documents?

image

Extensis includes a feature in their Suitcase Fusion app called Document Tracking, whereby you can search your computer for InDesign files that use a specific font. With Suitcase Fusion running, you can add multiple InDesign (and Photoshop and Illustrator) documents to it and instruct the software to use document tracking. Then when you click on a file, the software will display what fonts that document is using. If a font is no longer on your system, the software will flag it with a warning. There’s much more power to this tool, but I love this feature! If you’re creating professional documents for clients, it’s worth building the price of this app license into your rates to help with this requirement. I keep all the documents I have ever made in InDesign, just in case a client ever comes back and asks me to make changes to an old document. Sometimes that means a change to the style guide, and if it’s a font replacement, you never know which of those old documents uses old fonts. Here is a useful video explaining how to use this feature: https://vimeo.com/295199547.
